What Toronto’s Food Media Is Saying Right Now
The lists, reviews and openings the city’s food press is covering — summarised in a line or two, with a link straight to the original. We don’t republish anyone’s work; we point you to it, then tell you what it looks like from out here in the GTA.
Toronto Life — Best New Restaurants 2026
Published May 2026 • 44th edition
Toronto Life’s annual ranking, judged by editors and anonymous reviewers on cooking, service and room. Seahorse, a small seafood spot in Summerhill, took first place, followed by Brasserie Côte, Bar Eugenie, Oldeseoul Tavern and Punch. The write-up notes a shift this year toward casual formats and shorter menus. Read the full top 20 at Toronto Life →

Streets of Toronto — new openings, weekly
Updated weekly
The most useful running list of what has just opened — the August round included a family-run Greek taverna on the Danforth and a Midtown Italian sandwich shop working with long-fermented focaccia. Worth checking before you plan a week of filming. See this week’s list →
View the Vibe — best new-ish restaurants across the GTA
One of the few roundups that genuinely ranges past the downtown core, from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Ossington. Jamil’s Chaat House gets singled out for South Asian street food, alongside Radici Project and Sal’s Pasta & Chops. Read it at View the Vibe → · More Desi spots →
Hungry 416 — new openings, 2026
A blog-style rundown of this year’s openings, heavier on cocktail bars and date-night rooms than most: a Junction Triangle pasta spot with a speakeasy behind it, a Korean makgeolli bar, and a new shawarma and pita counter for the summer. Read it at Hungry 416 → · More shawarma →
The Toronto Foodiee take
Notice what almost every list above has in common: it stops at the city limits. Mississauga, Brampton, Scarborough, Markham, Vaughan and Ajax barely register. That is the gap we fill — the karahi houses, halal grills and strip-mall shawarma counters that never make a downtown top 20.
Every item above is summarised in our own words and linked back to the publication that reported it. Rankings, reviews and photography belong to those outlets — follow the links to read the full pieces and see their images. Last updated August 2026.
